The Ultimate Fisher

Everybody has at times seen something that absolutely grabs your attention and you become spellbound by it, unable to stop watching. Will that is how I feel when I observe an Osprey circle high above the water and watch as it spots a fish below the surface of the water, it flutters in a stationary stance until it sees the exact moment to strike. Then it folds its wings in a diving form and plummets straight at its prey and disappears beneath the surface.

At times it seems it isn’t going to resurface but then you see it break the surface and sit for a second or two on the surface before flapping its wings in a struggle to get airborne and lifts off with what looks to be too large a fish to lift.

However, it succeeds, hovering momentarily to align the fish, head first into the direction of travel reducing wind restriction and then heads for its nest.

I watch as it settles on the edge of the nest where a young Osprey is waiting for Mama to bring it food. A fish this size will surely mean that the family will be feed well for today.

In the distance you can see a flock of ducks feeding peacefully on swamp grass, everyone is happy.
