About the Artist / Author:

Cecil May grew up in a small town called Badger on the island portion of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. During his early school years he became interested in art as he watched one of his teachers (Miss Irene Mathews) do amazing drawings of birds and butterflies. This instilled in him a desire to create images using whatever materials he could find. That desire is as strong today as it was during his early years.

He lived in the Labrador portion of the province for thirty years. During his time in Labrador he spent a lot of time taking canoe trips and traveling the North, while also sketching and painting the wildlife and landscapes.

During these trips he often carved animals or fish out of old trees that would be near his tent and leave it for others to enjoy. He would get frequent calls from people who had come across his carvings, thanking him for doing them. He really appreciated that somebody would take the time to express their appreciation to him.

He has now moved back to the island portion of the province and has returned to his passion for painting art. His hope is that you enjoy these samples of his artwork.

Every portrait tells a story, some good, some not so good, but all have a purpose. Each artist has a vision of what it should represent and only the portrait can tell the artist when this vision has been accomplished. “
