Just Hanging Out!

The Look-out is up a branch of the trail from the Jean Lake walking trail, a walk of about two Kilometers. Hiking on the Jean Lake trail is always very interesting and enjoyable, there is plenty of wildlife to see. However, on one particular nice sunny day I decided to do my usual hike up to the Wabush Lookout.I  have been known for my presence on Jean Lake as a paddler but there were times that I would combine my day of paddling with a hike up to the Look-out.

On my way back down, I was approaching the little beach and rest area on the west side of the lake where I had left my canoe, then I saw that I had some company. I spotted Mama bear and her kids hanging around the rest area and my canoe.

Mama bear was busy looking for food and the cubs were playing and getting into trouble. Two of the little ones were taking over my canoe but one wasn’t pleased with what he saw as I approached and decided to do his watching from a tree.

Fortunately, Mama didn’t notice me and she soon moved on with the cubs in tow. My canoe was no worst for the wear and I had another beautiful memory of Wabush.
