Golden Reflections

Several years ago I had the good fortune to take a few friends on a fishing trip in Western Labrador. Several of these men were not as familiar with nature as we in Labrador take for granted. It was a great pleasure to treat them to  the experience of real living as I always refer to it, these were business owners that I had already set up to take on a nice adventure. None of which were used to traveling by canoe or boat and were a little apprehensive but they soon got into the swing of things and thrived over each challenge like real pros. Everyone really had a great time out in the wilderness.

However, there was one problem I couldn’t endure and that was the snoring in the tent at night, at the risk of sounding anti-social, I choose to sleep in my bedroll well away from the 100+ decibels of rock busting rumbles and snorts that was causing the tent to balloon in the most unnatural heaves and collapses I had ever seen. No self-respecting bear would be anywhere near these out-of-this-world sounds. In all my years of traveling the country, this could not be matched by anything I have ever heard.

I choose a location on a little beach about 100 yards from the commotion. This turned out to be a move of colossal benefits to me; as late that evening my tormented hearing was soothed by the quiet evening sounds of several loons out on the water, combined with a most awesome view of a golden sunset. Another beautiful scene to be stored in the halls of my memory. This is the portrait of that magnificent scenery of golden reflections.
