Rugged yet Peaceful

You may think that you are alone when deep in the wilderness but you are not. All around you there are little communities busy working and preparing their homes and food supplies for Winter. They never tire, always doing what they have to, this will ensure that they will survive the harshness of the coming seasons.

Each species has a unique means of preparing, Rabbits have burrows lined with grass, squirrels store food at multiple locations to retrieve as needed. The beaver family will cut branches and swim to the bottom of their pond and sink the branches into the muddy bottom to store for access under the ice during the Winter.

It is extremely critical for the beaver to ensure that the dam holds back just enough water to ensure the water level is a few inches below the edge of the living platform inside the house. Also, they have to ensure that the pond is deep enough to prevent the ice from freezing down far enough to block the door opening to their house. Many a beaver has made that mistake and resulted in the entire family being trapped and not able to get out to access the food storage. Thankfully these occurrences are few and far between.

The moose has his food all around him throughout the year.

This little community is rugged and peaceful.
