Ducks can sense when the temperatures start to drop and food sources start to deplete. It is this that will cause them to decide when it is time to start moving to warmer locations, often over thousands of miles to get to more favorable habitat for breeding.
It is believed that based on the position of the sun and location of the stars they generally know where to migrate to, but this hasn’t been scientifically proven, however, there is lots of speculation that this could be true.
“Coming Home” was a fun scene to create. Imagine that you are watching a flock of Mallards returning home from down south, after a very long flight. They are extremely excited to have arrived at their home pond. and are chaotic and just fun to watch.
I wanted to create this scene from a duck’s eye view as they returned home.
