Total Contentment

There are experiences in life that are unbelievable, and can happen at the most unexpected time while grabbing your total attention like no other can. This occurred to me while on a night paddle to my campsite in Northern Labrador, I had been checking out a hill a couple of miles from my canoe, daylight was fading rapidly. I headed back to the canoe as I still had about an hour of paddling to get back to the campsite.

It’s amazing that I could spend a full day exploring and splitting rocks in my attempt to find that magical elusive strike that every prospector dream is in the next hill or riverbed without once thinking of food while working the land.

Now that the work is finished and I am quietly traveling down the lake, I am thinking of a nice meal of caribou sausages that I had brought with me especially for this evening. And what an evening it has turned into! The sky has transformed into a beautifully enchanting black-blue gradient, filled with sparkling stars, while the northern lights are waltzing across the horizon with a most hypnotizing emerald-lime curtain swaying and floating over the countryside. This portrait is my feeble attempt at replicating Mother Nature’s work.

Mother nature has gone one step further to lure me, she has presented me with a portrait of a flock of geese crossing over the moon and portrayed on the water as only she can do.

As I glided smoothly along, I was in a state of total contentment.
