Welcoming Committee

Anybody who has ever flown into an outfitting lodge for an exciting fishing or hunting trip will surely remember being greeted very excitedly by the camp pets, usually a dog or two.

This particular trip we were greeted by two very overly excited dogs named Jesse and Bandit. Jesse the Chocolate Lab was a total spazz, always getting into trouble and wanting your total attention and devotion. While Bandit was much more subdued but also wanted your attention to himself.

As the plane taxied to the dock, they were the first to arrive and were impatiently jumping around wondering what new friends were being brought for them to play with. Yes, they thought they owned the camp and dock and anyone arriving would be at their beck and call to attend to their every wish and need. They were right because nobody could ignore the affection that radiated from each of them. Needless to say they were a great joy to be around and always interesting to watch, these two very demanding little people in fur were always the main topic of conversation, that is if we were not talking fishing.

Later in the evening when fishing was done for the day we would sit around the lodge with a nice fire burning in the fireplace and those two little beings would be constantly going around to each person to make certain we were contented and fully attended to. This portrait cannot possibly share the personalities of these two, but I’d like to think that you will sense the atmosphere that exhumed from them, they were priceless.
