Someone is watching over us

Several years ago I had hired a float plane to fly me to a remote lake in Labrador, I had made arrangements to be picked up by the plane as it was making a return trip from Shaw Lake in Labrador. This required the pilot to pick me and my canoe up at a lake called Ossak Reservoir located approximately 95 miles NE of Wabush. My plan was to fly into a remote lake called Lac Joseph located 40 miles South of the Ossak and to travel some 85 miles back to my truck via canoe.

This required traveling via several lakes and a river system that meandered through some of the most amazing country ever seen.

That is where this portrait originated from, the plane arrived right on time and we loaded all my equipment aboard and set off for Lac Joseph, it was a most beautiful sunny day with ideal flying conditions.  We arrived over Lac Joseph about 30 minutes out, as we were approaching for a landing the lake surface was glassy like a mirror.

I commented to the pilot that this must be beautiful for landing on. But he said he hated landing on a lake that is like a mirror because it is difficult to judge where the surface is and there was a danger of flying into the water. He suggested for me to throw out a life jacket so that we could swing around and use the life jacket as a reference of where the surface was. Before I threw out the jacket he said hold up, somebody is watching over us. I looked and saw a lone fish swimming on the surface for us to use as a reference of the surface. Yes – Someone was watching over us.
