A Northern Dream

Wilderness family scenes are without question the most amazing scenes to observe in the Wild, I love watching them and especially enjoy creating these scenes.

In this scene  “A Northern Dream”, in the land of the midnight sun, the sun creates a warm glow just above the horizon, I attempt to recreate a scene that would illustrate the bond between siblings and their mother, she is absolutely dedicated to her young and will do whatever is required to protect them.

The mother Polar bear doesn’t really hibernate but will slow her metabolism down to help her be able to care for her cubs in the den for several months without eating anything herself.

After spending about eight months in her den under the snow without food, she will emerge with her cubs to begin hunting her favorite food (seal).

As she travels the ice flows she teaches her young how to hunt, the young cubs will rely on their mother for about two and half years, until she is ready to breed again.

Creating this portrait was quite enjoyable, one of my favorite subjects to paint.
