After the Storm
AÂ late evening paddle in September of 2003 turned into an unexpected adventure when I was overtaken by a very dark rainstorm. I immediately went ashore to get out of the brunt of the storm.
It became totally dark with very poor visibility. The storm passed over as quickly as it had arrived, leaving a scene that could only be created by mother nature straight out of a fairy tale.
The sun had broken through and illuminated the town of Wabush with a golden glow; the storm was still visible in the distance with a dark Purple/Blue shadow over the sky.
The most amazing aspect was that the sky and the lake were divided by an awe-inspiring rainbow with its array of colours as it spread out so magnificently while fading ever so gently into the heavens and the depths of Jean Lake.
I had become so spell-bounded by what was before me that I almost overlooked the little family that was approaching from the south of me, I could see that they were unfazed by what was happening in the distance.
I remained still, sitting next to my canoe so as not to disturb the scene that Mother Nature had bestowed upon me, while appreciating her for gifting me with such a memory that will always be absorbed into that colossal chamber of eternity that all living creatures enjoy.
So don’t wait too long, get out there to accept her offerings!
