Drama at Sunset

On a quiet, peaceful, late evening while watching caribou silently crossing the tundra, I was amazed at the glorious colours that mother nature was displaying in the low western skies for my pleasure. And as if that wasn’t enough to send my heart soaring, she was also illustrating the most glamorous reflections on the small lake that spread out in front of me, this was one of the most stunning scenes that these eyes have relished.

I fully intended to totally soak up this glorious scene that she was so graciously offering up to me. However, I had been so hypnotized by the brilliance and peacefulness surrounding me, that I had almost failed to see the image that had begun to rise up out of the darkness and the muskeg. This creature appeared as if by magic right before my eyes. It never ceases to amaze me how a creature as large as a bear can conceal itself behind the smallest of shrubbery and then when least expected rise from the earth into the fading glow of a setting sun.

Yes, even the caribou were unaware of its presence until it was nearly too late, but this time luckily, I believe that my presence took the bear by surprise allowing the caribou the time needed to make a hasty retreat to safer ground.

The appearance of the bear along with the caribou in this beautiful sunset landscape was fabulous; then mother nature added to the serenity even further by having a flock of geese fly across the golden sky making for another amazing scene to store in my ever-expanding hall of memories. This portrait is another  of my feeble attempts at duplicating her work.
