Fishermen’s Dream

Just imagine that you are standing at the lower end of a long deep steady, watching the water for signs of what could be beneath the surface. It is deafening how quiet the evening has become and you have just completed a long hike to get to this spot.

It has always been a favorite place of mine to make a few casts; this evening the water is like a mirror, so calm and flat, with a few mayflies floating nearby. You are thinking if there were any fish active you would see one break the stillness at any minute.

That’s when you spot him rising from the depths, at first slowly but gradually gaining speed. You remain absolutely still, not wishing to alter what is about to happen by giving away your presence.

This isn’t new to you; you have seen this occur numerous times and each time your heart races to max with acceleration at what you are seeing.  Then it happens, the surface explodes as he breaks the surface only a few feet from you and then just as swiftly disappears back into the darkness of the depths.

You scramble to get your rod assembled and excited to see if you are as skilled as you think, of course you are!. You know he is down there and you have the equipment and skills to get him to attack your fly. Anyone watching the action that as just unfolded knows there is no cure for this calling.
