Caribou on the Barrens

While traveling across the tundra in Northern Labrador in October of 1994, along one of the many migration paths of the George River Caribou herd, I had the great opportunity of seeing an abundance of wildlife, including hundreds of stag caribou migrating to the rutting grounds along the Fraser River.

I enjoyed a most amazing sunset while watching the caribou traveling across the barrens, the colours were absolutely astounding, I sat for hours over the next couple of days enjoying this phenomenal annual event.

These caribou were absolutely so active, they were rushing around and running up the banks of the small river that I was camped near.

Just watching them jump into the river and swimming across, was like watching a block buster movie only ten-fold better. The caribou were on a mission that couldn’t be altered, it was nothing short of amazing.
