Confidence

On a nice sunny day in late May as I was hiking through a quiet stretch of forest just west of Wabush in Labrador. There came a drumming and fluttering sound emitting from a grove of Spruce trees about 100 yards from my position.

I recognized the sound, it was that of a Spruce grouse drumming for female companionship. Since these lads are very colourful during the mating season, combined with the White caribou moss that usually canvased the forest bed in this area, I felt that I would get a few nice brilliant shots for my collection.

It was comical to watch this little fella strutting his stuff and seeming oblivious of me watching him. The smug little fellow even marched right up to me as if to challenge me.

I took a few more shots and he went back to his business, seemingly satisfied that he had driven me off. He continued to strut his stuff.

I hope he was successful in his pursuit.
