Cute not Cuddly

One of the cutest creatures on Earth is the baby harp seal, in this scene I wanted to show how nature creates the ability for survival even for a young seal on the ice.

The mother will only stay with and feed the young seal for about two weeks. and won’t eat at all during this time herself. So the young seal will have to adapt very quickly.

Baby Harp seals  weigh about 20 lbs at birth and will triple its weight to about 60 lbs in that two weeks. The mother will then leave and the baby will be totally on its own.

The ice flows will break up and drift out to sea, and the young seal will stay with the ice fields and develop its swimming and fishing skills almost immediately.

It will have no problem surviving in that environment because that’s the way nature works. It is a very cute little creature but it isn’t cuddly so don’t get too close!

I hope you will enjoy this portrait.  Everything has it’s place on Earth.

Especially Baby seal pups on the ice.
