Emerald Princess
Often as a child I would sit on the banks of the Exploits River and fantasize about times long, long ago, when there existed a people that traveled throughout the wilderness and enjoyed their way of life.
Food was abundant in the form of vegetation. Also, they enjoyed fish and wildlife of all types. They built their shelters from trees, grass, and animal skins, whatever they could find. They used everything available and there was absolutely no wastage.
The rivers were their highways and a main source for travel with the seasons. They built canoes from birch bark and watap (roots from Spruce or White Pine trees). Watap was used to sew the birch bark together along with gum sap from the spruce trees to help seal the canoe against leakage.
There were special places they liked to travel to, these often possess spiritual value to them. These sometimes were just enjoyable, beautiful locations where these people loved to relax and enjoy life. I would like to think that this place that I have portrayed is one such place.
This is the reason I decided to create a scene of a special place with a special meaning. So relax and enjoy this Emerald Pond.
